Tillandsia recurvata – Ball Moss Air Plant “Quarks” (Small)

Adopted

When I lived in Baltimore, I’d always seen air plants in nurseries—displayed carefully and often priced like rare treasures. But after moving to South Florida, I began noticing them everywhere, growing wild on trees and power lines. These two I found at different times, both fallen to the ground after the rain. I brought them home, gave them a spot to rest.

Tillandsia recurvata, known as Ball Moss, is an epiphytic bromeliad that thrives throughout the Americas. It’s lives freely, drawing moisture and nutrients from the air rather than soil. Common across South Florida, it clings to branches and wires, forming soft, silvery clusters that move gently with the breeze. It’s a reminder that beauty doesn’t need tending to be alive—it just needs the right air to grow.
