Sansevieria trifasciata – Green Arrow “Orion” (Small)

Adopted

“Orion” is a rare Sansevieria trifasciata cultivar, more commonly called Green Arrow and sometimes known as Black Sword. Its long, upright leaves are such a deep green they appear almost black—sharp and architectural, like blades standing tall. This dramatic form makes it one of the a striking Sansevierias, valued its for rarity and design.

I love Sansevieria—a genus I’ve always admired for its resilience and sculptural form. When I first saw a photo of Green Arrow years ago, I thought, “Wow, this is incredible,” but I also knew it was nearly impossible to find in the U.S. Then I met Sylvia, an amazing plant grower whose collection and knowledge impressed me right away. To my surprise, she had one, and we arranged a barter: one of my Bantel’s Sensation pups for her Green Arrow. Finally seeing this plant in person was unforgettable. In real life it was even more striking—the colors, the simplicity, and the complexity all at once. Truly, wow.

Now thriving in South Florida, “Orion” is more than a plant—it’s a story of rarity, persistence, and community. It’s also part of our Toronto collection. I named it “Orion” because, in mythology, the great hunter carried both a bow and arrow and a sword—perfect for a plant known as Green Arrow or Black Sword.
