Platycerium alcicorne – Staghorn Fern (Medium)

Adopted

I first spotted a Staghorn Fern (Platycerium alcicorne) on Pinterest—one of those “cool plants you just had to have.” In Baltimore, my early attempts stayed small and fragile. But moving to Florida changed everything—these ferns thrive here naturally, sometimes growing on trees, sometimes in shaded corners, always carrying an otherworldly presence. By May 2022, I added this one to my collection (you can even see it on Instagram), and it’s been thriving since. Its fronds layer in dramatic fashion—shield fronds overlapping like armor while antler-like fronds spill out with sculptural energy. Each new layer builds on the sense of form and texture that makes this plant so captivating.
