Euphorbia tithymaloides – Devils Backbone “Savo”

Adopted

This propagation comes from my original plant in Florida—a piece I’ve long admired for its zigzag rhythm and sculptural form. It’s part of the Toronto Collection, a small but meaningful group making the move north as I prepare to relocate from Florida to Canada. This one felt right to bring—a resilient traveler with an edge, ready to adapt to new light and new seasons.

Known for its distinctive zigzag stem pattern, this species looks almost hand-drawn—each segment alternating direction as it climbs upward, like a living line sketch. The variegated leaves add soft contrast to the bold structure, creating a mix of geometry and grace. Every new section forms a small pivot, giving it a sculptural, almost architectural quality that feels both natural and deliberate.

Part of the Euphorbia family, this plant is native to tropical and subtropical regions of the Americas, thriving in bright, indirect light and well-draining soil. Despite its sharp design, it’s surprisingly forgiving—content with dry intervals and easy to propagate. Bringing this one along to Toronto feels symbolic—a zigzag of continuity, bridging two climates and two parts of life through one steady stem.
