Euphorbia (Monadenium) stapelioides Variegated – Medusa Plant (Medium)
Adopted
From my original collection came this remarkable Medusa Plant, an offspring I’ve styled into a hanging form that spills down like Medusa’s legendary hair. I first discovered the species at the Baltimore Conservatory during a plant sale—its sculptural, twisting form immediately caught my eye while others passed it by. Known formally as Euphorbia stapelioides ‘Variegata’ (though many nurseries still list it as Monadenium stapelioides), this variegated beauty thrives when given freedom to grow its own way. Suspended in a hanging pot, its branching stems cascade with an almost otherworldly energy, creating a living sculpture that’s both unusual and captivating. Slow but steady, resilient yet elegant—this plant rewards patience with a style unlike anything else in my garden.
