Dracaena marginata – Dragon Tree “Yamato-hō 大和砲” (Large)
Adopted
“Yamato-hō” (大和砲) is a rescued Dracaena marginata, better known as the Dragon Tree. Found during a landscaping cleanup in Boynton Beach, this cutting was nearly discarded until I picked it up and gave it another chance. With care and patience, it rooted deeply, regained strength, and now stands tall—its growth steady and determined, like a battlecruiser rising from the sea. Its foundation is strong, its leaves sharp and elegant, each one a mark of quiet endurance.
Dracaena marginata belongs to the Dracaena group within the Asparagaceae family. Native to Madagascar, it’s celebrated for its sleek, sword-like leaves and remarkable resilience. Dragon Trees thrive in bright, indirect light and can tolerate dry conditions, making them perfect for both home and office spaces. Their sculptural form and low-maintenance nature give them a timeless, architectural beauty that endures through change.
During that same pruning, another life was saved too—a Cordyline fruticosa named “IkaIka”, a Hawaiian Ti known for strength and good fortune and “Baby Finger”. Together, these two rescues remind me that resilience often begins in unlikely moments.
