Dracaena fragrans – Black Magic & Dracaena deremensis – White Jewel – “Spy vs Spy” (Medium)
Adopted
I call this pair “Spy vs. Spy.” The name just fits—two plants, opposite in color, growing side by side like counterparts in quiet balance. The darker one, Dracaena fragrans “Black Magic,” came from Boynton Beach—right in front of a Publix. One night, I took a small cutting, not from the big showy stalk, but from a smaller one hiding behind. It rooted easily, expressive and bold, with deep green leaves that almost glow under light.
The lighter one, Dracaena deremensis “White Jewel,” traces its roots to Baltimore. The original grew in my bedroom there, calm and steady through the seasons. Its offspring now lives here in Florida, sharing a pot with the Black Magic—a reunion of north and south. Together they represent a blend of contrast and connection, part of the Dracaena family, loved for its sculptural shape and low-maintenance rhythm.
