Austrocylindropuntia subulata – Eve’s Needle “Arya”

Adopted

This small cactus was a present from Adriana, shared during one of our plant exchanges. Even in its compact form, it already shows the bold, sculptural traits that define its species—upright stems lined with fine, narrow leaves and tiny spines catching the light. It’s easy to care for, yet full of quiet character, a reminder that strength doesn’t depend on size.

Austrocylindropuntia subulata, commonly known as Eve’s Needle, is native to the high Andes of Peru. Though it can grow tall in its natural environment, young plants like this one develop as small clusters of segmented stems, each tipped with soft, elongated leaves. Over time, it forms a sturdy base and begins to branch, revealing its natural rhythm of slow, steady growth. It thrives in bright light, well-draining soil, and long dry intervals between watering—conditions that echo its mountain origins.
