Aloe × humilis – Spineless Hedgehog “Kkachi 까치”
Adopted
I used to grow this same variety in my old apartment in Baltimore, where the northwest light was never strong enough for most succulents. While others struggled, this one thrived. Its compact, clustered rosettes seemed to draw strength from every bit of indirect light, quietly proving that adaptability can be as beautiful as resilience. I had to part with my original before leaving Baltimore, so having it return now, just as I prepare to leave Florida, feels like a gentle full circle.
Aloe × humilis ‘Spineless Hedgehog,’ also known as the Dwarf Hedgehog Aloe, is a hybrid cultivar valued for its dense rosettes of pointed, finely toothed leaves. Unlike many Aloes, it grows without sharp spines, giving it a soft, sculptural texture that still holds its desert character. The leaves are blue-green, often dusted with a silvery bloom, and the plant produces bright coral flowers that rise above the foliage on slender stalks. Compact yet hardy, it thrives in bright light and well-draining soil, tolerating dry conditions with ease. It’s a hybrid that balances strength and gentleness—easy to grow, easy to keep, and endlessly rewarding to watch expand.
