Medusa Plant
Euphorbia stapelioides, commonly called the Medusa Plant, is a succulent native to South Africa’s rocky grasslands. Its growth habit is unlike most plants—thick, snake-like stems radiate outward from a central crown, curling and twisting in a way that almost feels alive. This sculptural form allows it to blend into stone and soil in its native environment, while also helping it conserve water and withstand long periods of drought.
The plant’s striking appearance has earned it a place in culture and folklore, with its tangle of arms compared to the mythical Medusa’s hair of snakes. Beyond its mythic name, the Medusa Plant is valued for its resilience and ease of care, thriving in bright light with minimal watering. For collectors and enthusiasts, it offers more than greenery—it’s a living piece of art, bringing bold structure, curiosity, and a touch of legend into any space.
