Oxalis
Oxalis, often called shamrock plants or butterfly plants, carry a playful spirit and striking colour. Their leaves fold up at night and open again in the morning, like nature’s own little clock. Depending on the variety, foliage can be deep purple, soft green, or even bi-coloured, with delicate flowers that rise above the leaves.
Native to South America and parts of Southern Africa, Oxalis has long carried symbolic weight in different cultures. In Ireland, the shamrock form is tied to luck and spiritual teaching, while in Andean regions Oxalis species were valued for both beauty and edible qualities. Today, they remain a universal emblem of good fortune and renewal, connecting modern plant lovers to a deep tradition of symbolism and resilience.
