Thank You, James: Block to Fern

I met James while selling cinder blocks—proof that great plant stories can start in the most ordinary ways. Midway through the sale, he mentioned he was using the blocks to build stands for his Staghorn Fern collection, and just like that, the conversation took root. One minute we were talking about concrete, the next we were geeking out about ferns. Few days later, James gifted me a baby Staghorn!

And So It Began…

Once I got home, I mounted the Staghorn Fern onto a board (yes, there’s a video). It’s now hanging proudly, already looking like it’s been part of the space for years. It’s funny how plant people always seem to find each other—a shared curiosity, a respect for growth, and a love for things that thrive with care.

TY James

I’ll take great care of this baby Staghorn and look forward to watching it grow. Here’s to unexpected trades, rooftop gardens, and conversations that start with cinder blocks but end with friendship.
